Life "Then and Now" Photos: Then: 1964, Age 13 Now: 2015, Age 64 Lin retired from civil service in 2013 at Los Angeles Air Force Base where he served as GS-15 Director, Financial Management and Analysis, Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center. From August 1999 to August 2006, Lin served at the Pentagon in the Office of the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff as: Deputy Assistant Military Secretary for International Information Assurance and Interoperability, Military Communications-Electronics Board (MCEB) Secretariat, C4 Systems Directorate (J-6); U.S. Representative to the NATO Consultation, Command and Control (C3) Board’s Interoperability Subcommittee; Co-U.S. Representative to the NATO C3 Board’s Information Security Subcommittee; Chairman, Combined Communications-Electronics Board’s (CCEB) Information Security Working Group; Deputy Assistant Military Secretary for Spectrum Policy, Strategy, and Management, MCEB; Chairman, National Security Systems Standards Committee, MCEB; Chairman, NATO C3 Systems Interoperability Policy and Procedures Working Group; U.S. Delegate, NATO C3 Terminology Working Group; Acting Chief, Policy and Doctrine Division, J-6; Director, Education and Training, J-6; and Chairman, Joint C4I Curriculum Review Committee. Lin's professional experience also includes assignments in the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), U.S. House of Representatives, White House/Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Defense Industry, Active Army, Army Reserve, Army Staff, and the Army and Air Force Secretariats. the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, he managed the OASD/RA legislative portfolio. As Military Legislative Assistant to Congressman Dave McCurdy, he advised on matters pertaining to the House Armed Services Committee and the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee. He additionally assisted the Senate Banking Committee in the investigation of gulf war syndrome. At OMB he was singularly responsible for the redesign, preparation, and publication of the Balances of Budget Authority volume of the FY97 Budget of the United States Government, accounting for over $1 trillion in Federal and trust funds. While on active duty, Colonel Arison was assigned at Forts Benning, Bragg, Sill, Benjamin Harrison, Drum, Gillem, and McPherson, Patrick Air Force Base, and the United States Military Academy. He also served in Germany (3d Infantry Division and HQ, US Army Europe) and in Korea (HQ, US Army Garrison, Camp Humphreys). Concluding his uniformed service in the USAR, his capstone assignment was Acting Commander of the Capitol Hill reserve detachment. Lin received his commission from the United States Military Academy in 1973 where he earned a B.S. degree in general engineering. He also hold two masters degrees: a master of science in systems management (MSSM) from the University of Southern California and a master of public administration (MPA) degree from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. Additional studies were pursued at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He is currently a PhD candidate.
